Soleman Wisdom — The Story of Prophet Suleman (A.S.)

A graceful retelling of the life, wisdom, and lessons of Prophet Suleman (A.S.), written for Soleman Wisdom.

Introduction

Prophet Suleman (A.S.) (Solomon) was the son of Prophet Dawood (A.S.). Allah blessed him with extraordinary wisdom, a just kingdom, and unique gifts — including understanding the speech of animals and command over the wind and jinn. This article tells his story with lessons for readers of all ages.

“And We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, and the devils—builders and divers, and others bound in chains.” — Qur’an (Surah Sad 38:36–38)

Childhood and Early Wisdom

Even as a youth, Suleman (A.S.) displayed insight beyond his years. A famous story shows his wisdom when two women claimed the same child. His judgement revealed the true mother’s compassion — a timeless example of prophetic understanding.

Famous Judgment

Two women argued over a baby. Young Suleman asked for a knife and proposed to divide the child. One woman cried to spare the child — and her plea showed she was the true mother. Suleman’s decision demonstrated not only legal skill but also deep moral insight.

The Nature of His Gift

His wisdom was a divine gift from Allah — a blend of knowledge, empathy, and spiritual perception that allowed him to judge fairly and lead humbly.

The Ant, the Army, and Gratitude

When Suleman’s vast host marched through a valley, an ant warned its fellows to hide so they would not be crushed. Suleman heard the ant and smiled, then made a prayer of gratitude to Allah — an example of humility and kindness even from a king.

“My Lord, inspire me to be thankful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents.” — Qur’an (Surah An-Naml 27:19)

This moment teaches the sanctity of all creatures and the importance of gratitude to Allah for every blessing.

The Queen of Sheba (Bilqis)

Learning of Queen Bilqis, who ruled Sheba and worshipped the sun, Suleman (A.S.) sent a respectful letter inviting her to truth. Rather than force, he used wisdom and mercy. By Allah’s will, her throne was brought before him, and she ultimately embraced faith.

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Do not be arrogant, but come to me in submission to Allah." — (Surah An-Naml 27:30–31, paraphrase)

The story shows that wisdom, not coercion, wins hearts.

Death and the Final Lesson

When death came to Suleman (A.S.), he was taken while standing in worship. His body remained upright until a small creature gnawed his staff, causing him to fall — revealing that jinn had continued their work unaware of his passing. This reminds believers that knowledge of the unseen belongs to Allah alone.

"When We decreed death for him, nothing indicated to them his death except a creature of the earth eating his staff." — Qur’an (Surah Saba 34:14)

Lessons from Prophet Suleman (A.S.)

  • Gratitude: Thank Allah for every favour.
  • Justice: Judge with wisdom and compassion.
  • Humility: True greatness is paired with humility before Allah.
  • Power as a Trust: Use authority to serve, not oppress.
  • Respect for All Creatures: Every being is part of Allah’s creation and deserves care.
